What would you answer if somebody asks you what are the biggest opportunities for your organisation?
When we are raising this question in preparatory meetings with clients we almost always get answers like certain markets, product innovation, new technology, acquisitions and so on.
And usually all of the points which get mentioned are really relevant opportunities for the specific clients. We do agree.
But are these the opportunities with the highest relevance? Because relevance results from a combination of different aspects like direct and indirect benefits of leveraging an opportunity, required investment or costs, probability of success, realisation time, influences on other areas and last but not least the current circumstances under which an organisation is operating.
Based on our experience the top 3 of the biggest opportunities for most of the companies in today’s environment are related to
Business Model, Customer Insights and People.
The reason is, that these three areas have influenence on almost everything else. Business Model and Customer Insights on what you do and People on how it is done. This is often overseen when no clear methodology is used to specifically investigate the opportunities in these fields.
